Agate

Agate is formed from layers of quartz which usually show varicolored bands. The bands of agate may resemble moss, ribbon, lace or tree branches. In ancient times, agate was highly valued as a talisman to protect, quench thirst, protect against fever and to divert storms.

Agate may be found in a rainbow of colors including:
Brownish-orange agate: Cornelian
Green agate: Chrysoprase
Blue agate: Chalcedony
Brownish-red agate: Carnelian
Black agate: Onyx

Agate may be found in Africa, Asia, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Nepal, and the United States.
