Garnet occurs in every color except blue. The word "garnet" comes from the Latin word "granatum" meaning "pomegranate seed". Some garnets are color changing and exhibit different colors when viewed in natural light versus artificial lighting.
Garnets come in a wide variety of colors including purple, red, orange, yellow, green, brown, black, or colorless.
Garnets are found in the United States (Arizona), South Africa, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Myanmar (Burma), Scotland, Switzerland and Tanzania.
